Expertise & consulting

My expertise in equine internal and sports medicine, combined with over 30 years of hands-on experience, enables me to advise legal experts in complex cases involving horses.
My roles as Veterinary Services Manager at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, and as Head Veterinarian at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games gave me strong expertise in veterinary organization for major international equestrian events.
In 2021, the French Equestrian Federation (FFE) called on me during the neurological EHV-1 outbreak in Valencia to assess the on-site situation and facilitate the safe repatriation of French horses, acting as a liaison between riders and horses in Spain and the FFE and DGAl.
Currently, I advise the organizing committee of the European Pony Championships in all three disciplines which will be held in August 2025, alongside the company Equiways.

Training

Since 2022, I have led biosafety training sessions for the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), in English, as two-day courses on biosecurity in equestrian events, in collaboration with Camille Vercken (Equiways). These sessions are intended for veterinarians, international officials, competition organizers, etc. To date, I have delivered six training sessions worldwide.

I also provide training for veterinary clinics (for veterinarians, vet nurses, etc.). In 2025, for example, I conducted a one-hour online training session in English on equine clinic biosecurity for the VETOPIA clinic network, commissioned by vet-webinar.com.
Additionally, I have created French-language training sessions for Wizzvet, aimed at equine and mixed-practice vets, on a variety of internal medicine topics: pleuropneumonia, atrial fibrillation in horses, atypical myopathy, chronic colic, etc.

Research

Since 1993, my research has focused on performance and poor performance factors in athletic horses, especially Standardbred racehorses.
Since joining the Veterinary School of Nantes in 2001, I have developed research protocols primarily focused on equine respiratory pathology, particularly moderate to severe equine asthma.
For over 20 years, this research has been carried out in collaboration with LABÉO (Caen) and, since September 2020, under the research unit BIOTARGEN at the University of Caen. All studies conducted since 2010 have been approved by ethics committees.
Through these projects, I have supervised ECEIM residents at CISCO (Vet School of Nantes, Oniris Vetagrobio), enabling them to publish the scientific articles required for their residency. I am currently supervising four PhD students — one veterinarian and three non-veterinarians.

About me

I am a veterinary doctor, graduated from the National Veterinary School of Nantes (1992). From 1993 to 2001, I worked with the Research Unit in Human and Equine Comparative Sports Medicine, Pégase-Mayenne, conducting exercise testing in Standardbred racehorses. This work led to my university PhD, defended in 1997.
In 2001, I joined the National Veterinary School of Nantes as a lecturer and later became a professor in equine internal medicine. Since 2004, I am a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM), and thus, officially recognized as a specialist.
I served as the Veterinary Services Manager for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy (2014) and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris (2024). I was also the Head Veterinarian of the equine clinic and the internal medicine specialist at the Rio Olympic Games (2016).
